06 Jan In all your ways
One of my favorite Scriptures in the entire Bible is Proverbs 3:6. You’re probably very familiar with verse 5, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding.” But it’s in verse 6 God always seems to catch my attention.
It says “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your path straight.” (NIV) In all your ways. I always seem to stop there and ask myself “Am I acknowledging Him, noticing Him and aware of Him enough of the time in my life? Most of the time, my honest answer is “No, I’m not.” Then it’s followed with a prayer of “Help me acknowledge you God…in everything!”
We are about to enter 2016 in a few short hours. As I sit here today, I want to “do” Proverbs 3:6 this year, better than I ever have before. Because here’s the thing…if I acknowledge God, I am more likely to hear Him, therefore I’m more likely to listen to Him and that will result in the “path” of my life being made straight.
I want to acknowledge God in ALL my ways…
•In the way I love and treat Sean
•In the way I behave when I am tired
•In the way I eat on a daily basis
•In the way I rest
•In the way I exercise and take care of myself
•In the way I interact with my kids
•In the way I handle my finances
If I invite God into all these areas of my life, think of the impact He is likely to make! It’s kind of exciting to think about. What’s not exciting to think about is my flesh and how well I know it. But what comes to mind is Philippians 4:13 “I CAN do ALL things THROUGH Christ who strengthens me.” Or I Peter 1:3 “His divine power has given me EVERYTHING I need for life and godliness.”In the Message, it says Proverbs 3:6 like this, “Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.”
So if I listen for God’s voice in everything I do and everywhere I go, I will be acknowledging Him and my life will be kept on track. It takes the pressure off of changing in all these areas of my life if I simplify it and concentrate on simply listening and acknowledging God. He will do the “keeping me on track” part.
This sounds like a great plan for 2016! Happy New Year everyone!
