Our #1 Priority

As I sat and listened to one of our senior Pastors talk about the coming year I was encouraged when he said these words, "To remain healthy, you have to be your number 1 priority." That sounded so self-centered at first but honestly they are honest words for the New Year. Often our goals at the beginning of the year focus on the things we want to accomplish. We make lists of ministry or vocational opportunities, ideas for our families, and even spiritual goals. What we often miss is the toll these goals will take on us if we don't have our priorities straight. It's much like the oxygen mask in the airplane isn't it? We must take care of ourselves first before we can be of benefit to others around us. If I am tired, sluggish and not feeling well or in a good emotional state; I will miss opportunities to love on others every time. If I don't set boundaries and limits on my self I will miss opportunities to feed into those who are most important to me, my family. If I spend more time at church or work or volunteering or whatever I feel called to do and miss out on family meals and activities with my children...

Prayer – An Essential

Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.   James 5:13-16 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12 A few weeks ago I wrote about the importance of praying over our children. This is a vital role we play in our children's lives. But I want to encourage you to make prayer an ongoing exercise that you do everyday . It really is simple...

Are you a “worrier” or a “truster”?

7/2/2015 I'm not sure if "truster" is an actual word, but it came out of my mouth this morning as I was praying for someone who describes themselves as a "worrier". I was asking the Lord to help them become a truster instead. Easier said than done, but totally possible! One thing is for sure. You cannot worry AND trust at the same time. They are like oil and water. They simply can't coexist. You are either trusting, or worrying.God is very clear in His Word that He wants us to trust Him. Good things come when we do. But trusting is sometimes very difficult. We want to do it, but our whole being fights against it. We know God is trustworthy, we know He is capable of handling life's hiccups, we know He never will leave us and we are in His hands...
